Arts & Frames by Wood Gallery

Bruce Fox

As an avid sailor for almost 30 years, I have always been drawn to the ever changing motion, energy, and drama of the sea created by nature. Connecting this relationship to my passion for sailing allows me to reflect and respond on canvas to my everyday experiences.

As an artist my goal is to establish a unique personal technique that sets my artwork apart through its vibrant color, depth, intensity and texture. I am told that my technique is what separates me from other marine artists.

My seascapes are filled with the emotion of the choppy white caps, changing skies, awareness of the changing winds and the mystique of the exotic sailing ships and their crews. My artistic style has been described as bold, vigorous and full of passion

By using a wide collection of palette knives and massive quantities of paint and occasionally adding other media, I try to transform a brilliant pallet of colors with texture to create a composition that demands attention. Placing layer upon layer of paint and mixed media onto the canvas creates a "one of a kind" work of art. I enjoy allowing the painting to evolve by building up and breaking down the paint on the canvas. This includes using pliers to rip off layers of paint revealing a truly unique foundation underneath. Through this process each piece evolves organically.
When I am in the "zone" and everything is flowing I can barely wait to add the next element.

My hope is that the viewer enjoys the finished painting as much as I enjoyed creating it.
